Drugs in the water

150 different medicines have been detected in the water
(as far away as the Arctic)80% of U.S. rivers, and 25% of groundwater are contaminated by medicines.

Medicines are not removed by water filtration.
They pass through our bodies and water treatment facilities virtually intact.

These medicines work at VERY low dosages.
It's proven that "water drugs" affect your body.
Trace amounts of antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones are commonly found in the water.
Pharmaceuticals have been detected in the drinking water of at least 51 million Americans.

Human cells don't grow normally when exposed to trace concentrations of certain drugs.

Many animals receive toxic doses.

10% of India’s livestock have Diclofenac in their livers.  When they die, their carcasses are eaten by vultures.
95% of India’s Gyps vultures are dead (and 90% of Pakistan’s).

Water is very contaminated with estrogen used in contraceptive pills (ethynylestradiol)This leads to feminization of fish (and people).

Another example:
Upsher-Smith Laboratories consistently releases warfarin, a blood thinner (and rat poison / pesticide) into the water.

Warfarin is incredibly toxic to marine life.  It's used to kill plants and tiny aquatic animals in ballast water on ships.

The FDA is not responsible for waste water from drug factories.
The EPA didn't mention factories as a source, when asked how drugs get into the water.  U.S. manufacturers have legally released at least 271 million pounds of
pharmaceuticals into waterways.  The Federal government looks the other way.

22 drugs are monitored
8 million pounds of the skin bleaching cream hydroquinone have been released

3 million pounds of nicotine compounds,
10,000 pounds of tetracycline hydrochloride.

572 million pounds of the 22 monitored drugs have been buried since 1989
